Meine Meinung:
The Magicians and Mrs. Quent ist ein Buch, das man nicht so schnell aus der Hand legt. Das liegt vor allem an dem eher ungewöhnlichen Mix der Genres, die man für sich genommen schon mögen muss, um das Buch voll genießen zu können. Das ganze Buch spielt in einer Welt, die stark an das London der Regency Zeit erinnert, allerdings mit ungewöhnlichen Tages- und Nachtlängen und dem Vorhandensein von Magiern.
Aufgeteilt ist der Roman in 3 Teile, wobei der erste Teil im Stil einer Jane Austen geschrieben ist. Ivy und Mr. Rafferdy erinnern streckenweise stark an Austens Charaktere, ohne sie jedoch völlig zu kopieren.
Der 2. Teil ist in Ich-Form aus der Sicht Ivys geschrieben, sie schreibt Briefe, die an ihren Vater adressiert sind. Dieser Teil hat eine gänzlich andere Atmossphäre und ist im klassischen Spukhaus Stil verfasst.
Der 3. Teil führt die beiden vorangegangen Teile und die aufgetretenen Charaktere wieder zusammen und hat praktisch einen Krimiplot. Erotik hat in dem Buch keinen Platz gefunden, dafür eher subtile Romantik, die absolut passend und ausreichend ist. Alles zusammen macht den Roman recht ungewöhnlich, aber nicht minder interessant.
Fazit: Ideal für Genremix Fans und absolut lesenswert!
